Note Date: 10/1/2020 - An Installation Mass with Bishop Hicks.
Good day of Bishop's Installation Mass at Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet, I have arrived there early at 8:30 am. An Installation Mass was started at 10:00 AM. I stayed in my car and ate 2 McDonald sausage burrito and keep myself warm. It was cool winding out and nice sunny out.
At 9 am, I got out of car and walked up to side of the cathedral. One of the guards at the door tested my forehead for temperature using with thermometer. I was fine. I got in successful. I washed my hands and took an Installation Mass book and a face mask with the symbol of St. Raymond's on the mask. I walked in and boy, it was beautiful sight of the cathedral. A lady guided me to meet Sr. Sharon Stola, OSB up front of the cathedral. She show me where I should be seating ... close by where our interpreter, Mary Holden, was. I was so glad to see her. Sr. Sharon, with Mary interpreted, gave me instruction what I will do when my turn to give reading. After few minutes, I was surprised that Br. John Abulag was there, too. So happy to see him there. He was there as an altar server to help the mass.
I sat down and looked around. I started practice my prayer in my mind... just to make sure I sign right and remember the prayer. I started talking to Fr Mark Fracaro in my heart. "Hey, Fr Mark, I'm here for new Bishop! Please give me comfort and strength to get my reading ready. Did you know that we got Fr Ramon and Br. John here, too ... for Deaf Community? Cool! About time!!!".
At 10 am, the mass and the music started ... Fr. Ronald Hicks, Archbishop of Chicago Cupich, Bishop Peter Sartain of Seattle, Bishop Pates, Bishop Daniel Conlon, and many bishops, many others started walking in. Archbishop Cupich introduced and thanked to our past bishops, Sartain, Conlon and Pates for handle our diocese. Archbishop Christopher Pierre brought Pope Francis's letter and reading to us. Afterward, he gave Pope's letter to new Bishop Ronald Hicks. Bishop Ronald walked around proud and showing Pope's letter.to us. Then Bishops guided Bishop Ronald to the Bishop Seat of Diocese of Joliet.
Bishop Ronald gave his beautiful speech. After the mass over, Br. John and I were waiting in the hallway for Mary. Bishop Ronald came up to me and thanking me for doing the prayer. I told him that I have got a note from Fr Joe Mulcrone about Bishop Ronald did involved for Deaf gatherings. I told him that we all Deaf Community are very existing to have him our Bishop plus along with Fr Ramon and Br. John. He smile.
Thank you, Fr. Ramon and Sr. Sharon for letting me do one prayer.
Also, thanks to Diana Stallings for very nice letter. Let us be positive for us, the Deaf Community, to be a part of God and the Church for years to come.
Blessed You All and Hugs All of You with My Heart, Jack Crotty
